Battleship Nevada holds the unique distinction of having survived Pearl Harbor, D-Day, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa and being the target of atomic bomb testing during Operation Crossroads. Both USS Nevada (BB-36) and her sister ship USS Oklahoma were sunk in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Unlike Oklahoma, which was scrapped, Nevada was repaired, refit, and returned to service. BB-36 served with distinction during the invasion of France, and also in the Pacific, supporting the amphibious landings at Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Obsolete by the end of the war, Nevada survived the nuclear testing at Bikini Atoll during Operation Crossroads. She was finally sunk as a practice target in 1948. This expanded 176-page entry in the Legends of Warfare series includes 350 images. The photographs, tables, and accompanying text reveal the ship in construction and during her service in both world wars.
