| The outstanding trilogy by the Polish historian Jacob L. Talmon (1916-1980) who taught many years until his death the history of "totalitarian democracy" at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, became the most influential interpretation of the history of ideas. His findings were groundbreaking for the reconstruction of intellectual history in totalitarian ideology in the 20th century. In the first two volumes Talmon concentrates on the genealogy of the left wing totalitarism whereas the third discusses the right and left wing totalitarism. Only the first two volumes were published in German and have long been out of print. They are now newly published replenished by an academic approach. The third volume, published in English shortly after Talmons death in 1980, has been translated into German for the first time. |
