Early modern history: c 1450/1500 to c 1700 : Religion & beliefs |
| The intellectual-cultural movement of Renaissance humanism spread from Italy from the middle of the 14th to the end of the 16th century throughout Europe. At the turn of the modern era, it also encompassed the universities of the Roman-German Empire and shaped science, teaching and everyday life. In addition to the common language, it strengthened communicative-integrating elements, as can be seen in the scientific understanding of humanists. Renaissance humanism left lasting traces in the institutions of science by conveying its range of interests, its working methods and secular ways of life. The humanist was at the center of learned respect. This volume contains articles on the establishment of the "Scientia mathematica", astronomy and geography, music education, scientific book production, important humanists such as Bernhard Perger and Johannes Schoener, Konrad Celtis and the everyday university life of masters and scholars. |
