The publication â . and the figtrees in the Alameda gardensâ brings together three of Nina Daninoâ s early 16mm filmsâ First Memory (1980), Close to Home (1985), Stabat Mater (1990)â which are related to Gibraltar as a real place, and as an imagined geography and history. The publication includes the artist's recent work Meteorologies (2013). The book is published on the occasion of Nina Danino's solo exhibition â . and the figtrees in the Alameda gardensâ at the Garrison Library, a magnificent library in Gibraltarâ established in 1793. Since then, the venue, with its fine collection of rare books and documents, has been a centre of international cultural life in Gibraltar. Nina Daninoâ s films are part of the history of British artistsâ film and are listed in many UK anthologies. They are also in BFI National Film and Television Archive public collection. Danino uses image and sound to evoke emotional landscapes; she is renowned for her soundtracks and the use of the voice in film. The books presents the artist's personal archive, showing her working methods and the act of research. Nina Danino ( b. 1955; Gibraltar) graduated in Fine Art, Painting from St Martinâ s School of Art (1977) and Environmental Media from the Royal College of Art (1981) London.
