| This collection of over fifty essays by master educator Yehoshua Kurland is a unique combination of laughter and lessons, of humor and heartfelt advice. Each of these easy-to-read, self-help oriented essays covers topics like change, freedom, peace, internal struggle, and our relationships with others and with God. The chosen format that combines a humorous story with an insightful lesson is one that helps to open our minds and hearts and leads us to contemplate our course in life â to actualize the vast potential possessed by every human being. It is often difficult to penetrate our hearts or to touch our souls, given the many protective walls we build. A good joke provides insight and creates an atmosphere of comfort that eases tension and opens the heart. A light matter, a bit of laughter, a smile brought to one's lips â can lead to an important lesson for eternity. |

“A Bit of Wit, A World of Wisdom, is a small book in page numbers, but a big book in content. From beginning to end it has only 162 pages, but each page is a gem. The book is easy to read and accomplishes its goal. Each essay begins with a short witty piece, and then a longer piece of wisdom expressing a lesson on life - the two pieces, the wit and the wisdom are generally connected, though in some essays more loosely than in others. The wisdom portions are truly wise, and even though some of them contain ideas many of us probably already know or have heard before, Kurland expresses them with a clarity and style that makes the reader open to absorbing them. A Bit of Wit, a World of Wisdom by Yehoshua Kurland is definitely worth a read, and it will be an enjoyable and thought-provoking one!” – lifeinisrael/blogspot.co.il

"Wish I’d been endowed with wit; wish I’d had wisdom. Bereft of both, I revel in Yehoshua Kurland’s delightful compendium of humor and ethics. As a lecturer of Talmud, the rabbi (in Far Rockaway, NY) begins each essay with a joke, hoping to engage and inspire his students and readers. In an essay about the importance of communication in marriage, the author quotes a famous jokester: "It first occurred to me that our marriage might be in trouble when my wife won an all-expense-paid trip for two to Hawaii, and she went—twice!" Lesson to be learned, Kurland says, "In those moments of dissension, a wrong word, even unintended, can go straight to the nerve, or even worse, can stab through the heart." What’s called for is ongoing support to allow these painful moments to dissipate through the bond of your love and respect." - Tim Boxer, 15minutesmagazine.com July 2014
