    Title: Atkinson For England
Sub-title: A Tale of Mistaken Identity, the England National Team & Plumbing
By (author): Gary James, Mark Brown
    ISBN10-13: 1901746178 : 9781901746174
With only 10 days to go before England's crucial World Cup Qualifier against Germany, national manager Glenn Gould resigns, blaming Brendon Fendon, the FA's Machiavellian chief executive, of taking an unhealthy interest in team affairs. A shortlist of temporary replacement managers is drawn up -- the instant favourite is Ron Atkinson. Brendan Fendon leaves for Brazil to attend a career-enhancing FIFA conference on the elasticity of corner flags. Meanwhile, Nottingham plumber and Sunday League manager Reg Atkinson is concerned that his tender for the undersoil heating contract at the new Wembley stadium will be lost in the latest crisis to hit the England team. But he is soon reassured by a call from the FA asking him to an interview. Reg quickly hones his knowledge of the Swedish undersoil heating system and heads for London. After a swift selection process, Brendan Fendon's stand-in Sir Richard Scratcher appoints Atkinson and calls a press conference to announce the new England boss. But, as the mass media soon discover, the man taking the stage isn't Ron but Reg who has signed a multi-million pound contract to take charge of the national team. The press have a field day, but Brendan Fendon is none the wiser as his delayed flight from Rio lands at Heathrow. When the truth dawns he realises the only way out is to force Reg to resign by preventing all England's stars from playing against Germany. What does Reg do now? If he resigns he'll lose his money, but if he continues, England will be forced to forfeit the match and Germany will surely qualify. The press are camped outside Reg's humble semi in Nottingham, he's suffered a mysterious break-in and his plumbing business and the future of English football look like going down the pan. . .

    Title: Backstage Pass
Sub-title: The Grit and the Glamour
By (author): Joe Matera Foreword by: Phil Manzanera
    ISBN10-13: 1909360929 : 9781909360921
To most people the perception of the life of a music journalist is one of hanging out at parties with rock stars, partying until the early hours of the morning, jetting off to far away locations and indulging in all the glamorous benefits that come with hanging with that sort of crowd. This perception couldnt be further from the truth. Joe Matera has been on both sides of the musician/critic divide. A childhood obsession with music led to an early career in a covers band and a day job as a guitar teacher but it was the advent of the internet that opened up the possibility of writing about his first love. His first big journalistic break was getting the first Australian interview with Nickelback just weeks before they became huge and from there Joe interviewed artists from all over the world covering the full spectrum from heavy metal heroes such as Lemmy to nostalgia acts such as Bay City Rollers front man Les McKeown and everyone in between. As a musician Joe elicited a different response from his interviewees to those that might be directed at a career journalist - his technical knowledge of music and his conversational approach that eschewed the quick headline allowing him to delve behind the facade of the rock and pop stars he met. BACKSTAGE PASS takes the reader to that holy of holies, the artists dressing room as they prepare to entertain the masses and in some cases face their demons.

    Title: Bean There... Done That
    By (author): Graham Bean
    ISBN10-13: 1909360988 : 9781909360983
When Graham Bean was appointed the Football Association's first Compliance Officer, he was instantly nicknamed "The Sleazebuster" by the tabloid press and quickly made headlines investigating football wrongdoing on and off the pitch which covered everything from dissent towards match officials by players to alleged financial corruption in the boardroom by chairmen. Yet throughout his time at the English game's governing body there was a sense that his face didn't quite fit; as a blunt Yorkshireman and a former police detective he didn't shirk from asking awkward questions that put him on a collision course with the powers that be and he didn't take kindly to the "old pals" act that pervaded the FA whose ageing council members still held an iron grip on the professional game in the late 1990s. After leaving the FA Graham started his own business "Football Factors" which represented players and managers when they were summoned to appear before an FA Disciplinary Hearing. Among his stellar list of clients were Alex Ferguson, Rafa Benitez, David Moyes, Duncan Ferguson and many more and Graham's work with Fergie in particular led to more headlines as the FA sought to silence the dominant figure in the game. Graham went on to take up senior positions inside football clubs including working for Leeds United under notorious owner Mario Cellino during one of the most turbulent reigns in football history. An acrimonious split with the madcap Italian owner led to Bean becoming the FA's star witness in a case which led to the Italian receiving a lengthy ban from the game. He moved on to work in similar roles at Newport County and also crisis club Chesterfield FC but looking back on his career in the game after leaving his role as a detective with South Yorkshire Police, the advice of his late mother, Janet, rings true today: Football jobs are no good lad.

    Title: Blazing Squad
Sub-title: The Inside Story of Man City's Young Hooligans
    By (author): Carl Moran
    ISBN10-13: 1909360376 : 9781909360372
Manchester City's 'Blazing Squad' is one of a number of young gangs who prove the truth of that statement. As their infamous appearance on BBC Television proved, the tactics required to organise fights between rival football supporters have changed hugely since the mass of the 1970s and 80s. The advent of high ticket prices and all-seater stadia has forced a whole generation of younger supporters out of football grounds in favour of tourists and corporate fans, as a consequence violence within grounds has all but died out. Modern day policing techniques and the advent of spotters and Tactical Aid Units have forced the modern day hooligan to arrange 'meets' with rival fans, typically in areas well away from grounds and often with supporters whose team are not even in action that day. The Blazing Squad are one of this new breed of football firm -- small in number but ready to travel all over the country to fight their rivals. Carl Moran, star of BBC's 'Football Fight Club' explains how they grew from a few teenagers following their team into one of the most feared hooligan firms of recent times.
