Title: Adrenal Cancer
Edited by: Xavier Bertagna
ISBN10-13: 2742005935 : 9782742005932
Adrenal Cortical Carcinoma is classically associated with a dismal prognosis. Yet its clinical presentation is changing (more and more classified as 'incidentaloma'). New insights have emerged on its pathophysiological mechanisms (through the genetic elucidation of familial syndromes), and Reference Centers within National and European Networks are now offering more standardised and efficient multidisciplinary clinical management of these difficult patients. All these important aspects are described by experts in nine chapters dealing with epidemiology, prognosis, and clinical management, pathology, molecular pathophysiological mechanisms, modern imaging approaches, surgical and chemotherapeutical approaches of primary and secondary lesions, and the particular aspects of adrenal cortical carcinoma in children. This book, with its many figures and photographs, will be of major interest to endocrinologists, radiologists and nuclear medicine experts, pathologists, surgeons, oncologists, paediatricians. After a thorough reading, one will better recognise a suspicious adrenal 'incidentaloma', diagnose steroid hypersecretion, suspect a familial disease, consult with the pathologist and surgeon, manipulate difficult drugs like O,p'DDD, participate in multidisciplinary discussions with oncologists, radiotherapeutists, molecular biologists... Modern medicine in action!

Title: Anxiety
Sub-title: Neurobiology,Clinic & Therapeutic Perspectives
Edited by: Michel Hamon, Hélène Ollat, Marie- Hélène Thiébot
ISBN10-13: 2742000186 : 9782742000180
Although everybody had and will experience anxiety, its intensity, frequency and characteristics may vary from what can be considered as "normal" to pathological. The development of benzodiazepine as anxiolytics has been a major step firstly in therapeutics and secondly in the understanding of the associated biological mechanisms. Recently, new drugs without secondary effects of benzodiazepines have been developed. The purpose of the book was to take stock of the present knowledge: clinical aspects of pathological anxiety, neurobiological mechanisms associated with stress and anxiety, molecular targets of potent anxiolytic drugs, new issues and directions.

Title: Atlas of Electroencephalography
Sub-title: Awake and sleep EEG
Edition Statement: 2nd edition
By (author): Philippe Gelisse, Arielle Crespel
ISBN10-13: 2742015078 : 9782742015078
This fully updated and revised, 2nd edition will significantly help the visual analysis of EEG by neurologists and other specialists as well as technologists. The book retains the format and presentation that made the first edition successful. It is the most comprehensive EEG atlas on activation procedures, artifacts and normal EEG, covering the full spectrum of normal and unusual patterns observed during wakefulness and sleep, in children and adults. Electroencephalograms are shown in their native format, exactly as they appear in daily practice. Each plate is analyzed, in order to highlight the most significant elements to be used in diagnosis and interpretation. What is new in this edition: 120 new plates out of 180 : 2/3 of the book has been renewed; More physiological rythms, more examples by element; A new and larger size of the book for a better readability; All the plates, including the ones from the first volume, have been updated, and the presentation is much more precise and practical; The principal, full-size plate presents recording speed standard at 30 mm/sec, and is then used in a second plate (figure a) at 15 mm/sec, thus offering a global, more comprehensive vision. This is the only atlas worldwide offering two speeds. All plates have been printed and scanned in high definition, which gives the book an unprecedented quality, compared to other atlases presenting a simple screenshot. All plates come from digitized recordings, compared to other atlases with analogue recordings.

Title: Atlas of Electroencephalography -- Volume 2
Sub-title: The Epilepsies, EEG and Epileptic Syndromes
Edition Statement: Second Edition
By (author): Philippe Gelisse, Arielle Crespel, Michelle Bureau, Pierre Genton
ISBN10-13: 2742015914 : 9782742015917
Fully revised and updated, this second edition includes more than 2/3 new high-quality digital figures. A new Classification approach to epileptic seizures and to the epilepsies became official in 2017. Several aspects in terms of terminology have been included in this book and most of the chapters have been rewritten. This volume focuses on epilepsies in their diversity. It is richly illustrated, and each EEG plate is analyzed in order to highlight the most significant elements to be used both for the diagnosis and interpretation. The originality of this textbook lies in its patient-based approach, thereby avoiding the pitfall of a formal presentation of EEG documents without their clinical context. Hence electroencephalography is placed at the core of the diagnostic and therapeutic discussion concerning patients with epilepsy. Given the practical orientation of this Atlas, the focus is on common forms of epilepsies; nevertheless, some less common, more intriguing forms have also been illustrated. A synthetic text summarizes the present approach to the main epilepsy categories. This Atlas is designed for all the actors who may be involved with patients with epilepsy. Physicians who deal with EEG will find it a valuable tool to improve the education of their early years, to help them with their interpretations later on, and for teaching purposes when more experienced. But it will also prove useful for all the physicians interested in epilepsy, as well as EEG technologists intent on providing quality recordings, and other professionals. Thorough understanding of human epilepsies requires extensive knowledge of their EEG correlates.

Title: Atlas of Electroencephalography Volume 3
Sub-title: EEG Neurology and Critical Care
By (author): Philippe Gelisse, Arielle Crespel, Pierre Genton
ISBN10-13: 2742015795 : 9782742015795
The third volume of the series of Atlases deals with the use and usefulness of electroencephalography (EEG) in neurology. While EEG is universally recognized as a first-order investigation method in epilepsy (see Volume 2), and as an important contributor in sleep medicine, practical neurology has tended to neglect the value of this classical and established neurophysiological tool. A rich, extensively commented and analyzed collection of EEG plates is presented here. The reader will be compelled to remember that EEG is the easiest way to assess parameters like state of vigilance, risk of seizure activity, type and degree of functional impairment, in a very clinical and practical setting. The authors cover many aspects of neurological practices where the EEG may help in diagnosis and treatment: metabolic and other encephalopathies, infectious and inflammatory conditions, vascular disorders. It is particularly useful-and difficult- to distinguish between epileptic phenomena and EEG changes associated with metabolic abnormalities: a careful assessment of the EEG is of paramount practical importance here. Migraine is not always simple and there are many overlaps with other types of neurological diseases: the EEG may play a major part in helping the clinician in doubtful cases. Similarly, the diagnosis of dementia does certainly not rest on the EEG but many particular aspects concerning diagnostic overlaps or copathologies are aptly explored by the EEG. Lastly, even the neurosurgeon may need the EEG to monitor trauma, tumor, bleeding This Atlas will provide both examples and guidelines for the optimal use of the EEG in neurology.

Title: Autistic Spectrum Disorders
Edited by: Daria Riva, Isabelle Rapin
ISBN10-13: 2742005900 : 9782742005901
Autism is a complex disorder of neurodevelopment resulting in pervasive abnormalities in social interaction and communication, repetitive behaviours and restricted interests. It presents difficult challenges to physicians and other professionals and especially to the parents and families of affected individuals. The aim of this volume is to provide an update on this multi-faceted condition, and to review most of its major features, in particular its biology, genetics and current understanding of its brain basis. The book emphasises the importance of early detection, and spells out appropriate steps for clinical diagnosis and investigations such as neuropsychology, electrophysiology and imaging. Of particular interest are chapters that focus on differential diagnosis, advances in neurogenetics and molecular biology, possible consequences of immunisations and the relation between autism and epilepsy.
