Title: El Cimarron y su Fandango
    By (author): Mara Renero
    ISBN10-13: 1739881303 : 9781739881306
During the colonial period in the Americas, a â Cimarrónâ was a Black fugitive slave who lived a free life in isolated corners of society. After independence, when slavery was abolished in Mexico, the Afro-descendant population began to group mainly in two parts of the Mexican territory: Veracruz and the Costa Chica. It was in this last one where I had my first encounter with Afro-descendant culture and where I was aware of its importance and invisibility in the history of Mexico; despite being recognized as the third root, it was not until 2015 that the process for its recognition within the constitution began. Driven by after the first encounter I had with the community, I started the research that gave rise to this project, in which photography was the tool that allowed me to translate into images some historical elements that refer to the current construction of the identity of those who are called Afromexicans. El Cimarrón y su Fandango speaks to us in an allegorical way of the past of a Black community and its journey through colonial history, its integration into the territory and its current sense of identity within it. â Mara Sánchez Renero

    Title: I AM A MERMAID
    By (author): Alice Rosati
    ISBN10-13: 0995761175 : 9780995761179
I AM A MERMAID is an archetypal image that represents a woman who is comfortable in the deep waters of life, in the roil of emotions and sexuality. Alice Rosati shows how to embrace our instinctual sensuality, the wisdom of our body and the relation of our spirit. She symbolises our bond with our deepest, most instinctual feelings, the wild, primal, untamed nature.

Title: It's Not What It Looks Like
    By (author): Ana Segovia
    ISBN10-13: 1739881346 : 9781739881344
This title, like Anaâ s body of work, purposes to carefully observe the other side of circumstances and to think about an ecstatic temporality â beyond the here and nowâ as well as â exploring the open mesh of possibilities, gaps, overlaps, dissonances and resonances, lapses and excessesâ , to vindicate gender performativity. The potentiality of a rupture in monolithic thought, thus valuing interdisciplinary modes of collaboration, fuelled by a network of affinities, has contributed profoundly to how this publication was conceived. It brings together Anaâ s projects and paintings that narrate in a non-chronological way the repetition of motifs and concerns present in Anaâ s work between 2017 and 2022. Thanks to a prolific graphic universe in images â paintings, sketches, personal files, or any other mediaâ they intertwine a set of perspectives and temporalities. Similarly, a balance between the intimate and the public, as well as between the singular and the plural, was ensured to highlight how multiple voices empower one and the same, and vice versa, a well appreciated creative resource for Ana. This publication is an extensive reflection of Ana Segoviaâ s work, which incites us to play the match again and to imagine an â undoingâ of oppressive binary thinking. As I mentioned before, I like to think that this book is not linear, where performativity shifts from being a tool of intimate survival, to an impulse for the bodies to move in a continuous utopian flow. â Aurélie Vandewynckele

    Title: MIDO
    By (author): Julie Joubert
    ISBN10-13: 0995761191 : 9780995761193
I met Ahmed in 2017 at a social reintegration centre for young people in difficulty. Thanks to social media, we met up again two years later. Abbreviation, nickname, pseudonym: MIDO. Presenting differing identities over the course of his encounters, Ahmed wants to hide as much as he wants to be noticed. Throughout a chaotic life punctuated by painful elements, he has survived by dreaming of becoming a model. His great fragility, his self-destructive nature, as well as his ability to reveal himself, immediately convinced me of the need to follow him in his daily life for an unspecified period. [. ] Like a fragmented mirror, these photographs paint a portrait of this young person in the making, constantly searching for himself in a society where he struggled to find his place. Released in July 2020, Ahmed was again incarcerated in Fresnes prison ten days after his release. â Julie Joubert

Title: Piece of Mind - Maison ART/C
    By (author): Artsi Ifrach
    ISBN10-13: 0995761124 : 9780995761124
"Time that passed is present memories of future hopes. I create all my pieces with a total freedom from the state of mind I have at the moment. Being respectful of the past and the culture to bring something warmer. Vintage fabrics can match past and present. Colors and prints are my landscapes. Napoléon said: There is a fine line between the ridiculous and the sublime. I search this line every time in every piece. Iâ m thinking what we would like to have, that we do not have yet. The strongest part we all have is our individuality. That is what Iâ m doing with one-of-a-kind piece, as we all are. " Artsi Ifrach
