Title: "Hey! Hattori"
ISBN10-13: 4802131208 : 9784802131209
At my house I have a cat named Hattori-kun. Hattori-kun fled from Futaba, a town in Fukushima, when the Great East Japan Earthquake devastated the area in 2011. At the time, I wasn't much interested in photographing cats. But as I spent time with Hattori-kun, I gradually became attracted by his solitariness and at the same time his loveliness. One day, when I was looking at the photographs in the last few frames of the roll of film I had taken, there was Hattori-kun with an expression on his face that was just like mine. From beyond the coarse granularity of the photographic film, those eyes gazed steadily back at me as if clinging desperately to life. Far from home, completely domesticated, here was his true nature, the expression of a wild animal he showed for a brief moment only to me. "Photographing something loved" We go with the flow of the scenery outside the small window, and I want to be engrossed forever in taking pictures. But a cat's clock advances at a very fast speed, so I know that Hattori-kun's clock will get ahead of mine and stop before mine does. Until then, I will love this mysterious, elusive creature and capture in photographs the Hattori-kun only I can see. This photograph collection is a story of love I and Hattori-kun have spun together.

Title: A Fallen Angel
ISBN10-13: 4802131216 : 9784802131216
When we dream, no matter how strange the dream is, we are only carried along by it as a raft adrift on waves. Turn the pages of A Fallen Angel too as if you were a raft adrift on waves. Don't think for a minute that the girl with the stars and stripes wrapped around her body straddling a broomstick in the manner of a witch is a critique of civilization. Be a spectator of dreams. Yoshihiro Tatsuki is a driver of dreams and at the same time a spectator as well. Therein lies the newness of this photograph collection. Of course, his photographs differ from the great number of subjective photographs and photographs of images that appeal to the heart of the photographer. Tatsuki tentatively abandons the sort of photograph that is not affected by the elastic force of literature and pictures, in other words the fascination of intuitive feeling (meaning) and composition that tends to fall easily into symbolism. And there is the myth that the essence of the photograph is to record and inform. More aptly, it is like the thoughts a mother holds in her heart. By abandoning intuitive feeling, Tatsuki also draws near to these thoughts (recordability). The photographs are not a group of good friends that tell a photo story. They may seem to be because they record a series of encounters of physical and psychological mechanisms that happen to one girl. This approach avoids the intentional. This concentrated encounter with nonsense is more a documentary than a story. However humorous and sorrowful the girl is, it isn't her fault; it is a statement of accounts, the marks left by burns of 27-year-old Yoshihiro Tatsuki. Commentary: Shinichi Kusamori

Title: Breath
ISBN10-13: 4904541065 : 9784904541067
â I only became aware of the existence of life and death after connecting deeply to the world of water. This happened long before I started photography: by chance, I was invited to go diving, and when I saw that underwater world it captured me at once. The various phenomena and life forms which exist only in the water and the beautiful play of water and light brought me a strong sense of elation and excitement. In that world, it is difficult to walk as you would on the ground, and weather conditions can sometimes prevent you from entering it at all. Training and careful preparation are necessary. Above all, though, there is a limit to the number of breaths you can take. Among the many restrictions that exist in this world, this work focuses on â BREATH,â the most essential factor. Breathing is indispensable to us; it repeats continually during our life, and we consider death to be the point at which breathing stops. Usually, breath is invisible, and I think it never registers in our consciousness. By separating ourselves from this phenomenon, which is so close to our own lives, we can consider its essence and value. This occurs in the water. When we are covered in waterâ a kind of deathâ the fear inside of us comes to the surface. Beyond this, the condition of not being able to breathe reveals our attachment to life. I capture this entirely unpredictable scene of struggle. I superimpose this highly restrictive scene onto human â life. â People encounter all kinds of troubles during their lives. Even if someone knocks down a barrier preventing them from doing something with their own hands, this will not change the fundamental essence of our own limitations. It is necessary to live together with such difficulty. Perhaps the essence of life, granted to everyone, is to live while struggling against death. Math or science canâ t change this. Life is not just about visible beauty, but also about true strength, which we have from birth. â

Title: Burn After Seeing
ISBN10-13: 490454112X : 9784904541128
â At dusk, small fire sparks drew a soft line on the azure-blue sky, and they were so close they seemed like fireflies. And the flames only sounded during the moments when they were blown by a strong wind, scattering sparks all around. These sparks then disappeared as if they were being drawn into the sky, which was deepening into a blue-black. Following these with my eyes, I pondered where the lights were going, The colour of the sky further deepened, and I strained my eyes carefully to the tiny sparks emerging. They were blown away, stirred up, and put out by the wind. â - Murakoshi Toshiya Published by Libro Arte in collaboration with Spooky CoCoon Factory, Toshiya Murakoshi's sentimental documentation of his hometown Tokyo sees Murakoshi tracing the memory of his hometown through a collection of photographs of his parents house and the surrounding landscape. The works featured in the book were created after the death of his grandmother in 2009 prompting him to rediscover a relationship with photography, documenting his family memories and delving into the sincerity of his surroundings. Included within is an afterword by Murakoshi Toshiya and text by Head priest, Chohoy-in Temple, Director of Kurenboh Temple gallery Taniguchi Akiyoshi and Curator of The National Museum of Modern Art Tokyo Masuda Rei.

ISBN10-13: 4904541170 : 9784904541173
Well known for her use of brightly coloured hues and tones within her photographic work, multidisciplinary artist Hanayoâ s publication Dim opens up a new exploration for readers to view works taken in black and white. Presenting a collection of images taken in and around cities such as Berlin and Tokyo, Hanayoâ s Dim revisits moments shared in the past with her many friends and acquaintances made throughout her years living in Berlin. The images captured in black and white create a heightened sense of nostalgia which run through the pages of the photobook, reflecting both memories of places, people and feelings kept and conserved through the photographed images.

Title: Echo
ISBN10-13: 4802130317 : 9784802130318
I grew up in a small town in the countryside in the northeast region of Japan. There were few lights to light up the town, so on days when the moon and stars couldn't be seen there was a deep darkness that made me afraid of night falling. In winter the snow blanketed the earth, turning the town into a white world. Even at night the sky was bright. It seemed like I had wandered into a completely different world that was strangely wonderful and I would gaze at it for a long time. I began photographing the echo series in 2008 over a period of eight years, guided by myself as I was then. Sometimes my field of vision was taken away, covered by a great white veil so that I could see nothing but myself. I wondered whether it was the real world or just one that I was imagining in my heart and walked on, wandering through this indeterminate space. Focusing my mind, I could hear sounds of breathing of various kinds; as I took photographs in response to each of these sounds the emotional baggage in my mind gradually fell away. It seemed that I was touching the world just as it appeared to me when I was a child; it was a gentle time of remembering the past with fondness and yearning. â excerpt from the artistâ s afterword

Title: for tomorrow
ISBN10-13: 490454126X : 9784904541265
Sceneries change depending on what you feel in the moment. Iâ m trying to capture sceneries and views through such filters of emotion. These photos are different to those you would take if you were to leave your house with the intent of taking photographs. Sometimes, I become very sensitive to smell. Not smells that you sense with your nose but smells that you sense with your feelings. In those moments, I am drawn towards the smell of the city, the smell of people, the smell of life. Sometimes I traverse towns I donâ t know following only my sense of smell. You may not have a particular place to go to, but if you get over yourself and leave the house, youâ ll find yourself finding things you never imagined. When my feelings align with the scenery unfolding in front of me and I happen to have a camera on me, Iâ ll press the shutter button. (I almost always have a camera on me. ) Does this filter of feelings really exist? Does it become visible in photographs? Or is it just my imagination? In the end, finding the answers to self-doubts like that becomes another motivation for me to keep taking photos. â from the artistâ s statement (translation by shashasha)

Title: just a man in love
ISBN10-13: 4904541243 : 9784904541241
Hiroshi Shioharaâ s second photobook â Just a Man in Loveâ portrays a couple having sex in a way not yet seen. Shiohara focuses exclusively on the facial expressions of the man as the couple goes from foreplay to climax (and eventually a walk in the grass, holding hands). The book offers no context and no details about the couple; yet the manâ s face â earnest, natural, unpretending, glistening with sweat â tells a whole story. A brilliant, poetic book about passion and love.

Title: Looking for the Mountain
ISBN10-13: 4904541235 : 9784904541234
â Looking for the Mountainâ by Japanese photographer Kyoko Kawano. It is impossible to capture the whole of a mountain in a single photograph; perhaps it is impossible to capture the whole of a mountain no matter how many photographs one takes. In her foreword, Kyoko Kawano outlines that she became obsessed with climbing mountains once she reached her forties. â Why was I so fascinated with mountains? I donâ t know the exact reason why,â she continues. Her images capture the beauty of the mountains and hint at the quasi-religious awe and fascination that Kawanoâ and perhaps the Japanese people as a wholeâ feel towards mountains. The photographs tell of details as well as magnificent sights. What is Kawano looking to find in the mountains? It cannot be caught in photographs. But her photographs capture why she kept on looking in the first place.

Title: My House
ISBN10-13: 4896102851 : 9784896102857
| I am always taking photos. The photos taken from 2009 to 2013 are brought together into a book. I usually press the shutter button only once when taking photos. That is because I value the moment captured through the finder. Taking a look around for anything worth taking a photo and compose into a picture would require thinking process which Iâ d rather avoid. So, I decided not to do that. I always want to follow my instinct rather than my head. â MY HOUSEâ , the title of this book, is the word which reflects the state of my mind and has almost the same meaning as â my mindâ .
