Title: A History of Translation and Interpretation
Sub-title: The Chinese Versions of Hans Christian Andersen's Tales
By (author): Wenjie Li
ISBN10-13: 8740830977 : 9788740830972
H.C. Andersens tales are considered as classical fairy tales in China. How Wenjie Li they have achieved this canonical status is one of the concerns of this book. Taking a historical point of view, this book has explained how the Chinese translations and interpretations of his tales, since they were first introduced and translated, have contributed to their canonization, and how they have shaped the various images of Andersen in different temporal periods. Moreover, considering translation as a social practice taking place in a polysystem, this book has further explicated how socio-political factors like economics and ideology, as well as human factors such as patrons, translators, and readers, have influenced the Chinese translations and interpretations of Andersens tales. In addition, by referring to the Chinese target texts, English mediating texts and Danish original texts, this book has clarified the intertextual relations and influences operating among different versions of Andersens tales.

Title: Beyond Scylla & Charybdis
Sub-title: European Courts & Court Residences Outside Habsburg & Valois / Bourbon Territories 1500-1700
Edited by: Birgitte Boggild Johannsen, Konrad Ottenheym
ISBN10-13: 8776023222 : 9788776023225
The political landscape of Early Modern Continental Europe was dominated by two rivalling superpowers, the Habsburgs of Spain and the Holy Roman Empire versus the French Kingdom of the Valois and Bourbon monarchs. Age-old struggles for hegemony, seniority and precedence stimulated both parties to distinguish themselves from one another, at the same time influencing essential aspects of court life including courtly etiquette and diplomatic ceremonies. By result, it also determined court architecture. Satellite courts, more closely related to these superpowers, could visually expose their loyalty to a specific faction by implementing its specific system of codes and adapting particular spatial arrangements or decorations. But what were the strategies of the 'others', the independent, though less dominant European courts beyond the Habsburg and Valois/Bourbon spheres? How did these courts respond to the overwhelming cultural impulses as 'neutral' neighbours, allies or even as enemies - in a figurative sense navigating beyond the dangers of the mythic whirlpool of Charybdis and the rock on the opposite side, the home of the fearful monster Scylla? Were they only blind followers of fashion, or did they instead develop a 'third' language of court culture in a discourse with native and traditional ways of expression, often of ancient origin and quite as venerable as the Habsburg and Valois/Bourbon paradigms? These issues were debated at a conference organised in Denmark in 2012 by the PALATIUM project, a research networking program of the European Science Foundation. The volume presents 23 case studies, ranging from Denmark, Sweden, Poland and England, to Russia, the Low Countries, Italy and Portugal among others.

"Andreas Halskov's Beyond Television: TV Production in the Multiplatform Era is, quite simply, a tour de force work on American television from the first golden age to the present era of 'TV Plenty' or post-TV. Halskov's skill is his extensive knowledge of television and scholarly approaches towards the medium. His passionate engagement with the production of TV, how it is disseminated and its impact on the European television industry is palpable, and it makes for an immersive, informative and entertaining read. This book is a 'must-buy' for TV scholars and students as well as a general reading public interested in the history of today's dominant entertainment medium." -- Prof. Kim Akass (co-author of Quality TV and TV's Betty Goes Global).

Title: Bob Dylan the Poet
By (author): Anne-Marie Mai
ISBN10-13: 8740831531 : 9788740831535
This is a book about Dylans poetic works. The reason behind it is the Nobel Literature Prize awarded to Dylan in 2016. The many discussions that arose out of this award, both before and after Dylan accepted it, called for a book that looks more closely at Bob Dylan as a poet, and examines the contribution he has made to modern literature.

Title: Citizen Categories in the Danish Welfare State
Sub-title: From the Founding Epoch to the Neoliberal Era
Edited by: Jesper Vestermark Kober, Niklas Olsen, Heidi Vad Jonsson
ISBN10-13: 8740833631 : 9788740833638
"Citizen Categories in the Danish Welfare State approaches the question of the political legitimacy of the welfare state from a new perspective. It argues that legitimation of the welfare state is inextricably linked to particular ideas about the nature of its citizens, encompassed in so-called citizen categories. The volumes explore the making and function of eight such categories in the Danish welfare state from the late nineteenth century until today: the worker, the consumer, the democrat, the mentally ill, the migrant, the patient, the unemployed and the entrepreneur. Offering the first major study of citizen categories, their origins and alterations over time and their role in shaping welfare policies and institutions, the volume helps us bridge the gap between our understanding of the historical development of the welfare state and the present political situation."

Title: Cosplay
Sub-title: East Asian popular culture in a transnational perspective, vol.1
By (author): Martin Petersen
ISBN10-13: 8740833941 : 9788740833942
Cosplay deals with a community of Danish fans of Japanese popular culture whose fandom makes them distinctly identifiable as productive fans; namely fans who appropriate characters, story worlds and design from manga, anime and video games and who produce cosplay. It is argued that the Danish cosplayers constitute a confident, vibrant community, which sees itself in the midst of actualizing manga and Japanese media worlds against the backdrop of childhood and early youth literacies and intimacies. Cosplay is the first publication in the four-volume series East Asian popular culture in a transnational perspective: A National Museum of Denmark Collection. What happens when anime, manga, video games & photo booths from Japan and South Korean pop music & comics flow into Denmark? This series explores issues pertaining to East Asian popular culture in a Danish context and asks what it can contribute to our understanding of cultural flows in an East/West perspective.

Title: Danish literature from 1000 to 1900
ISBN10-13: 8740831000 : 9788740831009
Danish literature from 1000 to 1900 is an account of Danish literature from the earliest period to the modern breakthrough of the late 19th century. Together with Danish literature in the 20th and the early 21st century this volume forms a complete history of Danish-language literature. At a time when information about individual authors and their works is only a quick click away and constantly updated, it can be an advantage to gather together this myriad of information and place it in coherent order particularly for readers unable to read Danish. That is the basis for these two volumes on Danish literature. They provide a framework within which the richness of information about authors and their works can be appreciated as forming a rich, connected and connecting narrative. Danish Literature from 1000 to 1900 is an inclusive and networked literary history that does not turn literary texts into mute museum pieces. The volume includes an analysis of the world famous Danish History of Saxo Grammaticus of the middle ages as well as a presentation of the renaissance masterpiece, Memoirs, by Leonora Christina Ulfeldt. The writings of the leading enlightenment author, Ludvig Holberg, are also introduced and the romanticist novelist Thomasine Gyllembourg, the fairytale author Hans Christian Andersen and the philosopher Søren Kierkegaard are key figures of the historic exposition. The volume is concluded by an introduction to the authors of the modern breakthrough. Central international contributions to literary studies and extensive discussion on periodization is included in Danish Literature from 1000 to 1900 so that readers may relate this periodization to the periodization of other national literatures. The volume also includes chronological overviews and notes on literary studies discussion of historiography and influential recent research and approaches to Danish literature.

Title: Death & Burial in Karia
Edited by: Eva Mortensen, Birte Poulsen
ISBN10-13: 8740830608 : 9788740830606
This volume presents, besides the publication of an Imperial-late antique necropolis outside the Myndos Gate in ancient Halikarnassos, a number of contributions concerning on-going and recent research on tombs and deathscapes. The necropolis outside the Myndos Gate in Halikarnassos. Four articles concern the publication of the 22 monumental tombs and their mosaics, the surveying and drawing of the necropolis, and the inscriptions that belonged to the tombs. In relation to this follows a linguistic analysis of two local funerary terms. Intramural tombs and coffins in Halikarnassos. Two articles shed further light on aspects of death and burial in Halikaniassos -- one through a recently excavated intramural necropolis, the other through some preliminary observations on sarcophagi. The Maussolleion. Two articles revolve around finds made on the site that housed the most famous Karian tomb monument, the Maussolleion. A funerary epigram from Halikamassos. One article scrutinises a funerary epigram from Halikarnassos mentioning a family that moved from Thurii to Halikarnassos. Deathscapes of the Halikarnassos peninsula and Karia. à ukurbÃ"k and Loryma. Two articles concentrate on necropoleis outside Halikarnassos -- a first preliminary report on à ukurbÃ"k, a prehistoric necropolis on the Halikarnassos peninsula, and the deathscapes of Loryma on the Bozburun peninsula in the Karian Chersones.

Title: Different Pasts â Sustainable Futures
Sub-title: Activating Ethnographic Collections at the National Museum of Denmark
By (author): Mette Boritz, Mille Gabriel, Shgendootan George, Nanna Holdgaard, Matthew J Walsh, Astrid Kieffer-Døssing, Asta Mønsted, Anne Mette Olsvig, Sarah Santangelo, Christian Sune Pedersen, Glicéria Tupinambá Jesus da Silva, Ancco
ISBN10-13: 8740835081 : 9788740835083
"In a world where ethnographic collections and institutions are increasingly questioned as lingering vestiges of the colonial gaze, how might we transform them into venues for empowerment and inspiration? Different Pasts â Sustainable Futures navigates this difficult question by reflecting on how the museum can be a place of positive cultural encounters. Ethnographic museums are repositories of culture. As such, they have the potential to be living venues â spaces for the celebration of cultural diversity, resilience, and change. This volume explores how ethnographic and World Culture museums and the research undertaken within them can support the revitalisation of Indigenous and traditional knowledge, lifeways, and ideas through collaboration. It is inspired by the idea that ethnographic collections are redeemable and can contribute significantly to sustainable futures, creative collaboration, and equitable partnerships. Each chapter offers an insightful (sometimes even playful) glimpse into the world of the ethnographic museum with a focus on illuminating how museums and collections can actively contribute to addressing some of the pressing issues of our time. This volume is a contribution to the Taking Care project â a network of ethnographic and World Culture museums across Europe â of which the National Museum of Denmark has been an active partner. It is through research, collaboration, and dissemination such as presented in these pages that we might re-envision ethnographic institutions as spaces of care â places where history, hope, and humanity can come together â where different pasts and sustainable futures meet."

Title: Excavating Nydam
Sub-title: Archaeology, Palaeoecology and Preservation. The National Museum's Research Project 1989-99
Edited by: Sandie Holst, Poul Otto Nielsen
ISBN10-13: 8740833267 : 9788740833263
In 1859, 1862 and 1863, under the direction of archaeologist Conrad Engelhardt, extensive excavations were undertaken in the bog Nydam in Southern Jutland, Denmark. The investigations revealed that, during the Roman and Early Germanic Iron Ages, extensive major offerings were made here of weapons and other military equipment presumably war booty. Engelhardts archaeological finds from Nydam, and the history of the bog itself, are comprehensively described in the literature, and it can be safely asserted that the locality and its finds occupy a prominent place in the identity history of Southern Jutland. However, as the analyses of the Ejsbøl finds and, not least, the post-war periods other major war booty site at Illerup à dal, excavated by the Prehistoric Museum in Aarhus, now Moesgaard Museum, began to be published in the 1980s, the need for new investigations at Nydam seemed ever more pressing. Excavating Nydam, as the title suggests, is a book about the Danish National Museums excavations at Nydam in 1989‑99. In addition to a description of the various excavations, the geology of the bog and an identification of the individual votive depositions, the main emphasis is on presentation of the wooden artefacts, the conservation and recording of which would not have been possible without the combined, integrated efforts of archaeologists, scientists/environmental archaeologists and conservators.
